How Do You Find the Best Teachers and Mentors?

When you want to learn something, whether carpentry or mathematics or anything else, how do you find the best people to teach you?

You go to school! This is obvious, right?

Well, think again! For instance, let's say you want to learn how to start your own business. You might want to register in an MBA program at your local college or university. Of course, if you do that, you will learn something about business administration. But are the people who teach there really the best teachers you can find?

Think about it for a minute: A good businessman (or woman) can make millions a year with their business skills. Do you really expect a skilled businessman to leave his business and his millions behind to go teach business administration for a hundred thousand dollars a year?

For instance, about a year ago, I decided to start my own online business. After looking around for a while, I found the Teaching Sells program, which has been created by two successful Internet businessmen, Brian and Tony Clark. Brian Clark is the man behind the Copyblogger website.

Even though I have not yet started to implement what I have learned in that program, I can already see a big difference with University courses: the Teaching Sells program is interesting! I don't know about you, but I can assure you this last point is vital for me. I think I couldn't sit through boring lectures any more, even if I stood to make millions.

Anyway, if you're thinking of starting your own online business, the Teaching Sells program is definitely worth looking into, especially since they have a complete money back guarantee. Make it fast though, as they're closing the program at the end of July 2008.

By the way, the links above are affiliate links. I wouldn't help promote this program if I didn't personally appreciate its value.

If you have any thoughts about how to find good mentors, I'd like to hear from you.

My first blog

Hi everybody.

This is my first blog. I plan to use this as a way to share some of my vast wisdom and knowledge with the world. I have done some teaching, and it is something I enjoy doing, so this will be an opportunity for me to do what I like best in a new setting.

I have taught mathematics and computer programming, but I definitely do not intend to limit myself to those two subjects. For instance, I also have a strong interest in psychology.

I was also thinking of using this blog to help people find free resources on the web. For instance, lately I have been trying to learn Spanish, and I have found some free resources that help me do that. I have also developed an interest in making money on the web, and I have found some free information on that topic.

The set of topics I talk about will probably expand as time goes on.
